Jakarta Transportation Agency provided public discussion about age restrictions and number of individual motor vehicle owners at Ashley Hotel, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Thursday (7/18).

The discussion was participated by several source persons such as Professor of Transportation at the University of Indonesia, Prof Dr Ir Sutanto Soedhono M Eng; Professor of Transportation at Yogyakarta State University, Prof Dr Ir Zainal Arifin MT; Environmental practitioner, Ir Raden Driejana MSCE, Ph.D; as well as representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) of Jakarta Province.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo, said the discussion was held to respond Act No 2/2024 about Jakarta Special Province (DKJ).

"Jakarta Transportation has a number of assignments to prepare the entire mandate of Act No 2/2024 can be implemented properly without obstacles," he said.

He hoped this discussion will be able to result constructive suggestion, so that overall efforts to improve Jakarta's transportation to overcome traffic congestion will be achieved.

"The whole thing will be discussed intensively so that it is hoped that it will produce plenary input to determine which parts are regulated in regional regulations or derivative regulations or governor's decisions in order to accommodate future transportation dynamics that are visionary in nature," he added.

He explained that there are three key words that are being pushed to realize Jakarta's vision as the center of the national economy and a global city, namely livable, good environment and guaranteed accessibility.

"Of these three things, transportation plays an important role in haste so that the Jakarta Transportation Agency must be prepared and prepare well," he continued.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Drafting Team for the Draft Regional Regulation on Traffic Needs Management, Susilo Dewanto, explained Jakarta Special Province has special authority in the field of Transportation including road traffic and transportation, shipping and railways in accordance with article 24 paragraph 2 of Law Number 2 of 2024.

"One of the special authorities in the sub-sector of road transport traffic is limiting the age and number of individual owners of motorized vehicles. The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently drafting a regional regulation draft on traffic demand management starting in May 2024," he explained.

The four themes raised in this regional regulation draft are electronic traffic restrictions or ERP, low-emission areas, parking management and age restrictions and the number of individual motor vehicle owners.

"The expected results from this public discussion include component classification, a policy system based on all pilots, policy implementation and recommendations on strategies for limiting the age and number of individual vehicles," he said.
